For the Caregivers who need a Break1/30/2022 ![]() Hey you, If you are parenting , or providing care to a young child during this pandemic, you deserve all the kudos. We have adjusted to inconsistent support systems by way of daycares and schools shutting down with little notice, and no refunds. We've moved closer to family and friends to make up for the loss of caregiving infrastructure, and in doing so, at times , have sacrificed a little bit of our freedom and autonomy. I get it. From worrying about the health of our children, to our own health, and ability to provide care , it's stressful. This past year, while I was lone parenting, I created a backup village that consisted of close friends who are nurses, multiple godparents, and adopted aunties who work in childhood education , just in case if I caught covid, and it affected me in a way that I could not provide adequate care. We are the foundation. We have to make sure that we are also supported. Often the type of support that is needed for our extraordinary role is time to actually give ourselves care. How do we do that when our pride and joy are risks to their grandparents , teachers, and social circles? I've become really good at utilizing positive child media to fill in the gaps left by these few years of social distancing and closures. Sometimes, having an extra 30 minutes to ourselves to actually take a long bubble bath , or breathe ,does wonders . Here is a list of free child media that can be found on YouTube that has benefitted us: Mother Goose Club- Educational Nursery Rhymes Daniel Tigers Neighborhood - Gentle Parenting and Emotional Intelligence PBS Kids Blippi- Educational Engineering and Animals Pancake Manor- Rock versions of Children's Songs Sesame Street- Educational Emotional intelligence and Social skills Pororo- Safety Lessons Pink Fong- Korean Language Immersion, Social Skills, Math and Science, Safety Cookie Swirl- Independent Play, Role Play Ryan's Toy Review A for Adley- Positive Father Daughter Relationship, Self Esteem T Rex Ranch- Educational Paleontology Let me know in the comments: What have you done to keep your kids learning during the pandemic? Do you have any child media that should be added to the list? Also if you find this information helpful, and would like to support Poetic Change, you may support us through |
